Personal Training - Marketing & Getting
Clients
How to Get Personal Training Clients with
6 Easy Marketing Strategies
If you have the right knowledge and personal training certification,
you can greatly increase your pay by starting your own busines versus working as an employee at a gym. However,
now you have to find your own clients.
Marketing your personal training services is not a job you should take lightly. However, you
don't want to spend all of your time doing it. You want to focus on cost-effective marketing strategies that
take little time but work at bringing in clients. When you are using marketing techniques that work, you don't
dread the task because you know they pay off.
Your marketing efforts are primarily needed when you start your business. Over time, a good personal
trainer can survive on repeat business and customer referrals and a lot less advertising.
Personal Trainer Marketing Strategies
Most likely, your personal training business will focus on local clientele. This can make marketing a lot
easier, because you have less competition than global businesses. Make yourself visible in your local community
on a consistent basis, and you can quickly build a recognizable brand with a company logo and catchphrase.
- Start by announcing the opening of your business. Getting publicity can be free and
very effective when done right. You can write a
short press release to your local newspaper yourself or hire a PR service to do it for you. In either
case, you want to make your announcement newsworthy and interesting to readers, so that it will get
published. Some examples might be: you could give free personal training consultations to new clients
within a one-month period, offer a limited time coupon for your services or host a free workshop where
attendees can get information on losing weight.
- Order Business Cards &
Brochures. These are essential to have on hand, especially if you are hosting a workshop or holding an
event where people are likely to want more information before doing business with you. You may also be able
to partner with similar local businesses and have them display your brochures and/or business cards.
Promote each other's services or offer the other company a referral fee for all customers they send your
way. Examples include a vitamin shop, a running club or a physical therapy office.
- Give out coupons. You can sign up to advertise in neighborhood mailers or place coupon
"ads" in local newspapers to bring in new customers. People love bargains, and it gives them the
opportunity to test-drive your service without paying full price. Create your own coupons.
- Place an ad in the Yellow Pages. Seems pretty basic, but it's sometimes the first
place people look - especially if they're new to the neighborhood. Include more than just contact
information - explain in one sentence how you help clients achieve their goals. Photos can also work in
your favor.
- Help sponsor a triathlon or other athletic race in your city. You may be able to
include coupons in the goodie bags that each race participant gets. This makes people view you as a good
samaritan and can help you gain new clients.
- Sign up to teach a fitness class, such as an exercise boot camp in your local
community. This can be way to introduce yourself to potential clients in a comfortable environment where
they can first get to know you before hiring you as a personal trainer.
