When you write a press release, you want
to grab the reader's attention with a catchy headline. Make sure you don't sound like you are trying to
sell something - but rather you are providing important information to your reader.
Keep your press release at about 1 page and send samples when applicable. Focus on benefits to the reader,
use bold headlines and break large paragraphs into smaller ones for easier reading. See sample press releases under "Step 2".
How to contact journalists - and get noticed!
Journalists are busy. The best way to get through to them is to get their attention - stand out from the
crowd. You can do this by picking up the phone and calling them directly, sending a personal email, writing a
letter to the editor or speaking at public events. You can also submit articles to publications to be used as

clients at their clients' place of work, or they can consult over the phone or via the internet.
A few examples of consultants are: computer consultants, business management consultants, wedding
consultants, coaches, IT consultants, financial consultants and image or fashion consultants.
Of, course you will be more marketable if you have experience working for well-known or prestigious
companies in the field of your expertise, or you have completed impressive jobs successfully. Focus on a
well-defined niche. This can make you more attractive to potential customers. Don't try to advertise yourself
as the jack-of-all-trades. The better your specialty matches their needs, the more likely they are to believe
you can handle their projects.
