Here's how I do it:
I get my email leads at the beginning of each month. I have a pre-written professional email letter that I send out (I used Instant Sales Letters to write it in 25 minutes!).
In less than 40 minutes, I have my emails sent. My next step is to wait.
3 days later, I send a quick 3-sentence follow-up message to prospects, reminding them to visit my website. (Autoresponder Magic is what I used, but you can actually just use Instant Sales Letters to write both your letter and follow-up) That's it!
No hassling family and friends, no cold-calling or knocking on doors, no meetings to attend and no uncomfortable sales calls.
Professional leads really make a big difference - because they actually make "working" fun! But you've got to get professional leads, any old leads won't do - they just won't produce results.
And results are what make leads worth the investment.
