25 Proven Strategies to Improve Your Telephone Skills & Build a Downline
- You need to prospect continuously to maintain a full sales funnel. When it dries up, you can lose
momentum, as well as any downline that you have built.
- Use the products that you sell in your mlm business. You need to be able to walk the walk and
demonstrate that you believe in what you sell. If you don't - why should anyone else who you
recruit?
- Figure out what your prospects really want. You can't buld a successful mlm business by just selling to
people. You need to solve their problems - provide a solution for them that will make them happy. When your
customers and downline are happy, they will stick with the business and continue using the products.

When you are prospecting, make sure you follow up with customers. Some people need time to get to know
you and trust you. You can't expect to make a sale on your first meeting. Many times, it takes 5-7
times of contact before a prospect feels comfortable doing business with you - or feels ready to
buy.

- Treat prospects and customers like you would a friend. Be open and honest so that they can grow to like
and trust you. MLM is a relationship business, so you need to treat as such.
- You also need to treat your business like a business. Act professional, leave your full name and title
if you leave a voicemail message, return phone calls in a timely manner, answer questions and be as helpful
as you can.
- Prepare your voicemail strategy prior to placing your call. Plan what you are actually going to say.
You want to sound confident and professional.
- Whenever you leave a voicemail message, make the information interesting and valuable. Otherwise, why
would the prospect return your call or take action?
- What is the best time to call? The best time to call is when you're available. If you're not on the
phone you don't have any chance reaching anyone.
- Make daily call objectives. When you have a plan for your day, it is easier to stay focused, and you
are more likely to take action. Take prospects from first contact to a scheduled interview.
- Establish a reason for each phone call. What is the result you want to achieve or the action that you
want the prospect to take?
- Challenge yourself each day to achieve a little more that you did the day before.
- When you begin each phone call, address the prospect's or customer's needs. It's all about
them.
- Begin follow up calls with pro-active phrases like: I'm calling to review, I'm calling to discuss, I'm
calling to analyze, I'm calling to go over what we talked about on out last call or I'm calling to continue
our conversation from last time.
- Practice your telemarketing scripts, but don't read them. You want to sound natural and comfortable so
that the listener will feel the same.
- After you have asked the prospect a question, pause and wait for an answer. Silence is not a bad thing,
and you can learn a lot about what your prospects want from doing this. Also listen to his or her tone of
voice.
- Don't wait for your prospect to make the choice to sign up with you. Guide them along and let them know
what to do next. Prospects generally need to be shown what to do - make it easier on them. Do they need to
fill out a form, purchase a product, watch a video, attend a meeting?
- Ask for a commitment with conviction. Is there any reason why you won't join XYZ Company today? Is that
your plan? Are going to join today? Talk in a positive way.
- Get people to visualize using your product or service. Help people visualise the success they can have
with your business opportunity. What does it means to them. It comes back down to your prospects primary
