How to Become an Entrepreneur
If you're wondering how to become an entrepreneur, I believe it comes down to desire. What I mean is that
you need to have a burning desire to work for yourself, run your own show, come up with your own ideas, etc...
You need to be self-motivated so that not having someone around to motivate you becomes a non-issue. If you
love what you do so much or you are passionate about helping people or making a difference in the world,
working hard is fun. Bring it!
Many of us don't know that we are born entrepreneurs until we try it. Before that, we don't know any
different than working for the man (or for the woman, in my case). We just know that either we are frustrated
or we want something more - or both. Taking that first risk to try something new and different outside the
comfort zone is what pushes us over the fence, and we never turn back.
Being an entrepreneur is all about trying new things, taking risks and being different. If that is not you,
don't try to become an entrepreneur. It will drive you nuts. You may go nuts anyway by becoming an entrepreneur
- but in a good way.
I never knew how to be an entrepreneur. One day I just quit my job and bought a computer at Costco. I didn't
know how to use it, but I learned. I decided I never wanted to go into another job interview again, and few
years later I gave away all of my high-heeled shoes, suits and stockings for good.
I wouldn't recommend that anyone just quit the day job without a well-thought-out business plan.
However, I encourage people with an idea and a gut that says, "Just do it" to take that step over the fence to
see if becoming an entrepreneur is for you. You will never know if you don't try.
