sell through can generate multiple revenue streams and make you less dependent on eBay.

to do business. They can sell through eBay, but they can also sell to consumers directly through their own
site. When customers buy direct through the seller's site, sellers don't have to pay fees, which in turn
increases their profit margin. They can sell less while bringing in the same amount of revenue.
Turning on the taps for multiple streams of income
You may have heard the term "multiple streams of income" used by business experts. The  concept
is simple: the more sources of income you are able to create, the better. Not only can you increase your
profits, you can minimize your business risk, since you are drawing income from multiple sources - similar
to owning a variety of different funds in the stock market.
You may also find that your particular products sell better through a marketplace that is NOT eBay. Testing
a variety of different outlets enables you to find out which is most profitable for your business.
