How to Choose the Right Bank for Your Online Business 1-2-3
When looking for a business bank, it's a good idea to do your research and comparison shop. Your best option
is not necessarily the bank you already have for personal accounts.
To decide which business bank is best for you, decide which services you want and find the bank that best
matches those services. If you will not need many services and simply want a bank where you can deposit
payments and write checks from, you may want to evaluate fees and customer service.
Something else to look at is financing qualifications and options. If you plan on applying for a business
loan soon or sometime in the future, the bank you have an account with already will probably be your best
source of funds as far as a bank loan goes. The reason for this is that you will have already established a
relationship with them, and they know you and hopefully trust you. Easier loan qualifications or a simpler loan
application procedure may sway you one way or the other when it comes to choosing a bank to to do business
with.
Of course, convenience should be a consideration as well. Are there branches close by or ATMs that you can
use without having to go to far out of your way? Does the bank include online banking services like bill pay so
that you can monitor your account and manage some of your payments and transactions without having to leave
your home?
Cost is another factor when it comes to choosing a business bank. Why pay fees when you can avoid them?
There are enough banks competing for your business that most times you can avoid the high fees, and often pay
nothing. This may require a minimum balance, use a particular service or minimal usage of your account
services, so read the fine print when you are comparing business banking services.
There are also some banks that are exclusively online banks. For some home-based business, especially ones
that transact all of their business online anyway, this can be a great way to do business banking. Many offer a
services where you can use a variety of ATMs, and they reimburse you for any ATM fees. This can be a win-win
where you have multiple ATM locations to choose from, and you get to use them for free.
